Residential Roof Inspection, Replacement and Installation
The best way to see if you need a new roof or replacement roof or simply need to have some repairs performed is by visual inspection. This inspection cannot be performed on the group. The only way to accurately inspect a home or residential roof for damages including hail, wind and obstruction is to actually get on the roof and perform the inspection.
Getting up on a structurally insecure roof can be extremely dangerous to yourself and for your home. Rather than risking your health or the safety of your family, consider calling a professional to complete an assessment of your roof.
Most roofing products have an intended lifespan and there are always issues that can occur due to weather damage that can put your roof structure at risk. Consulting in the help of a professional from Nationwide Roofing and Fencing can ensure that your roofing materials, structure and downspouts are in their best condition.
Why get an roof Inspection?
Most people only think about an inspection after a storm. Yes, this is a good time to check for leaks and damages, but residential roof inspections should be performed at least once a year depending on the type of materials used.
Residential roofs should be inspected to make sure that:
- The coloring is still good
- The shingles are still holding
- Installed caulking is still intact
If they are not inspected you may have to eventually completely redo them.
Where to look for issues?
There are common areas for roof damage. These can be the result of hail damage, wind and storm damage or simply deterioration over time. Here in Texas, especially the Dallas and Fort Worth area, the constant change in weather has a tendency to accelerate this roof damage therefore reducing the life of the roof.
The things a profession inspection will review during an on-site roof inspection include:
- Does the fireplace need to be re-flashed, re-caulked and spray-painted. If needed, then the metal areas and the metal flashing should be spray-painted to prevent rust.
- Are there any holes or cracks that may lead to potential leaks into residence. What starts as a small roof leak or drip can later become an expensive replacement.
Nationwide Roofing and Fencing has been providing free roofing inspections for our clients in the DFW metropolitan area including the cities of: Dallas, Pleasant Grove, Euless, DeSoto, Red Oak, Sache, Allen, Irving, Plano and Frisco. Give us a call at 214-882-8719 for a free inspection.
Common mistakes homeowners make?
Replacing or installing a new residential roof is technically a very straight forward process but can be fraught with potential issues. The homeowner needs to be informed and practice due diligence to make sure that their experience is a pleasant one.
Some of the most common mistakes include:
- DYI – doing it yourself.
With YouTube videos and many self-help websites available today, everyone seems to believe they can do it themselves. But doing it yourself may expose you to a host of problems. In addition, your home owners insurance along with the materials warranty may be nullified if not installed by a profession.
- Homeowner chooses the first roofer that shows up at their door step.
When selecting a roofing contractor for your residential roof repair, it is important to: check references verify how long they have been business; check their reviews and BBB Rating (you want companies with A + rating); and verify the type of material and warranty they provide.
- No plan; no specifics on how and when the work will be completed. This is a big red flag when working with roofing contractors. You need to make sure that everyone is in agreement as to what the expectations are: what day the roof replacement project will begin; what is the total cost of the repair/replacement; how long will it take to complete the project; and how will they work with your insurance and payment Be wary of contractors that require all payments upfront. This is a sign that they have not been in business long enough and don’t have the financial stability for the job size. Or they something else. Most victims of fraud are usually the ones that paid everything upfront.
Nationwide Roofing and Fencing has been operating in the Dallas and surrounding counties for over 30 years. We do not require full upfront payment. We will work with your insurance company to the claim process and payment – painless.
Nationwide has an A+ Rating with the Better Business Bureau (BBB). We have excellent review from our clients. We are happy to provide you with client references at your request.
What residential roofing materials do we use?
The brands we use include:
- GAF shingles manufacturer
- Owens Corning manufacturer
- TEMCO manufacturer
When using shingles, the customer can select between 25 year and 30 year shingles. 25 year shingles are made of lighter materials but they don’t last as long as a 30-year shingles which are heavier and are also prettier to see. When possible we usually advise homeowners who are replacing their residential roof to go with the 30-year option. The pricing is a little bit more but the result is better material and longer coverage.
